Tocumen Named the World’s Best Airport by AirHelp 2026

Panama continues to strengthen its position as one of the most connected and competitive destinations in the region. Tocumen International Airport was recognized as the world's best airport in the AirHelp Score Airports 2026, ranking first among 279 airports evaluated across 76 countries.

This recognition is a source of pride for Panama and highlights one of the country's greatest advantages for people considering living, investing, retiring, or establishing a business here: strong international connectivity and an efficient travel experience.

Panama Reaches First Place Worldwide

Tocumen International Airport achieved an overall score of 8.48 out of 10, surpassing Pinto Martins International Airport in Fortaleza, Brazil, which received 8.42 points, and Cape Town International Airport in South Africa, which obtained 8.36 points.

Tocumen's results across the different categories were:

  • On-time performance: 8.9 points.
  • Passenger experience: 8.1 points.
  • Facilities and comfort: 7.6 points.

In addition to leading the overall global ranking, Tocumen was also recognized as the highest-rated airport within the category of terminals handling between 125,000 and 250,000 flights per year.

What Does the AirHelp Score Evaluate?

The AirHelp Score analyzes several aspects related to airport operations and the overall passenger experience. To create its 2026 ranking, AirHelp combined operational data with feedback from international travelers.

The final score is calculated using three main factors:

  • On-time flight performance: 60% of the final score.
  • Passenger experience: 20% of the final score.
  • Facilities and comfort: the remaining 20%.

Travelers evaluated aspects such as staff service, waiting times, cleanliness, signage, accessibility, rest areas, restaurants, retail options, and the overall comfort of the airport terminals.

Recognition for Efficiency and Service

Tocumen's first-place ranking reflects a strong combination of operational efficiency, punctuality, passenger service, and overall airport experience.

This recognition also adds to other international achievements earned by Panama's main airport, which has previously been highlighted for its punctuality within the medium-sized airport category.

These results demonstrate the important role Tocumen plays in positioning Panama as a major aviation hub connecting North America, Central America, South America, the Caribbean, and Europe.

A Gateway Connecting Panama to the World

For expatriates, retirees, international professionals, and investors, air connectivity is an important factor when choosing a new country to call home.

Having access to an efficient international airport makes business travel, family visits, and connections with other countries much easier. It also allows people living in Panama to maintain personal and professional relationships in different parts of the world.

For companies and investors, reliable airport infrastructure supports international mobility, commercial meetings, tourism, and the arrival of new clients and strategic business partners.

What Does This Achievement Mean for People Considering Life in Panama?

The experience of moving to another country often begins the moment a person arrives at the airport. Entering through an organized, efficient, and well-connected terminal can create a positive first impression and make the relocation process feel more comfortable.

From Tocumen International Airport, travelers can quickly reach Panama City and continue their journey to residential communities, coastal destinations, mountain regions, and other areas throughout the country.

For those considering permanent relocation, this ease of travel can be a significant advantage, especially for individuals who maintain family, professional, or business connections abroad.
